THE JOURNALISTS' CLUB (JC)

Brief History

The Journalists' Club, UI, is the first independent press organisation on the campus of the University of Ibadan, Ibadan Nigeria, West Africa. Although there has been many campus press organisations before it, all these were either affiliated to faculties, departments, and halls of residence, or any other reputable organisation/club. The non-affiliation of the JC to any organisation or club whatsoever explains its independence.

The founding of JC in 1975/76 academic session of the University of Ibadan was credited to Mr. Enioma Okoli who had since graduated from the University. Former members of the JC who have made their marks in the larger society are Babs Sheriff, Jubril Arowolo Kunle Shittu, and Boglo G, who is presently a chief cartoonist in a Lagos-based celebrity magazine, The Fame.
